This mechanism winds a blue coil spring in small, precise increments and then releases its stored energy only when the yellow switch permits. A pair of ratchet pawls handle the tightening and the holding, while a separate pink release latch governs when the spring may rotate freely.

Components — At the center is a blue coil spring wrapped around a hub. A pink ratchet wheel mounted beside it receives the winding motion. The yellow hand lever drives a primary pawl that engages the ratchet teeth, advancing the wheel with each stroke. A second pawl, colored cream, holds the spring in position between strokes to prevent back rotation. A small pink release latch sits opposite the drive pawl and can disengage the holding pawl when triggered.
